Paul Thompson Biography

It is with great sorrow that First Lite Records announces the passing of Gospel Recording Artist Paul Thompson.  Paul was diagnosed with Leukemia in January of this year and spent two months at MUSC Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.  The Lord blessed Paul to gain enough strength to return to his home in Hartsville in March so that he could spend his final weeks with his beloved family and dear friends.  The Lord called Paul home on Thursday April 28, 2005 while he was hospitalized at McLeod Regional Hospital in Florence, South Carolina. 

Paul was born on November 4^th, 1963 to Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Thompson, Jr. Paul was brought up in Kay Branch Baptist Church and began singing around the age of 8 years old.  At age 11 Paul began playing the piano.  

Paul has been a member of the Nazareth Apostolic Church located in Hartsville, South Carolina for the past 21 years where he served as Minister of Music under the leadership of Bishop Vera M. Davis.  

Paul was the founder of his new ensemble “The Royal Priesthood” also known as TRP.  The ensemble consists of twelve members specifically chosen by Paul.   He was also a member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America – Gospel Announcers Guild.  

Paul signed with First Lite Records in November 1999 and had his first release with the label titled “Lord Please Let My Soul Be Right”.  His newest release “Break Forth—Baalperazim” was released in August 2004.  “Break Forth” was recorded LIVE in Florence, South Carolina with TRP, The Grace Cathedral Choir, and a special song with The Pee Dee Community Youth Choir.    

Paul was an anointed vocalist, songwriter and musician.  He had ministered to churches pastored by such recording artist as Shirley Caesar, Rev. Timothy Wright, Bishop Albert Jamison, and Bishop Ronald Brown.  He had also written songs for artist such as Dorothy Norwood, Timothy Wright, and Lillian Lilly.  During his career he had shared the stage with some of the world’s greatest gospel artist such as Dottie Peoples, John P. Kee, Yolanda Adams, The Late Rev. James Moore, The Canton Spirituals, Beverly Crawford, Norman Hutchins, Byron Cage, and Detrick Haddon.
