"Who wouldn't serve my God? To spread the Good
News about Jesus Christ to so many people delights my heart! Serving the
Lord is my greatest joy, Angier S. Johnson
Angier Johnson, “The Gospel Messenger”, has served as the Sunday Morning Gospel announcer at WVAS 90.7 FM, “The Voice of Alabama State University,” in Montgomery, Alabama since 1995. WVAS 90.7 FM is an 80,000 watts radio station canvassing 18 Alabama counties and reaching in excess of 650,000 listeners. The station’s powerful blend of smooth jazz and mellow vocals, gospel and news is also streamed on the worldwide web at www.wvasfm.org. Johnson’s six-hour special blend of contemporary, traditional and vintage inspiration, along with her rich on-air style, garners her high ratings and makes her show a favorite among the Capital City’s Sunday worshipers and Internet surfers. Before this talented lady of praise was tapped as the WVAS Sunday morning gospel host, she served as the on-air announcer at WSFU-FM in Union Springs, Alabama and at WAPZ-AM in Wetumpka, Alabama. Johnson’s influence does not stop at the listener level. When not on the air, Johnson, a 17-year veteran state employee, works full time as the Public Information Specialist in the Public Information/Safety Education Unit with the Alabama Department of Public Safety. As editor of the agency’s online monthly publication, The Blue Light, her prose represents the department’s more than 1,300 state troopers and non-sworn employees. Johnson graduated from Faulkner University in her hometown of Montgomery, Alabama. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Management. She is active in numerous community outreach efforts both through events sponsored by WVAS 90.7 FM and through events hosted by her sorors of the Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. In addition, she is a former member of the Public Relations Council of Alabama and the Gospel Announcers Guild of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Johnson is a member of the United Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and serves as the church administrator and as a member of the Board of Trustees. After celebrating a one-year survival of breast cancer, Johnson insists that spending time with the two men in her life -- sons Jeffery Caleb, 15, and Peyton, 9 -- is a constant reminder of what is important. When asked what drives her, Johnson responds, in her trademark melodic voice: “I receive my greatest pleasure serving God”.
